Judy's Drawing Performing at The Bistro |
August 10, 2006 Thoughts On The Bistro A friend of mine, Tiffany, had told me about The Bistro a while back. She was impressed that a bar near her house carried Montana beers. A little home away from home as she called it. A way to find some of that small town feel that she left behind when she came to the big city. On one of the nights she hung out there a performer was on stage who covered Neal Young songs all night long. "Your better than him, so why don't you come down to Hayward and play there some time. Lot's of people and a good time." Last night I decided to take her advice and I played three forty-five minute sets on B Street. I had a great time. I can't say I've ever been to downtown Hayward to hang out or play, but this place had a lot of charm. An audience member, Judy, drew me a picture while I played. A musician named Mike gave me some performing advice and showed me some of his songs on the piano during one of my breaks. The bartender was friendly, playing Trivial Pursuit the Nineties Edition with her friend, when no one needed drinks from the bar. This is one of the things I like best about being a performer and songwriter. The people you meet. The new places to play that you never realized were right in front your face all this time. Conversations with people who are old souls and young at heart. Most of all it's the experience of being alive. Getting out into the world and challenging yourself to be somewhere different and do something new. The Bistro was a great place to do just that and a great place to perform.
